- 1. THE ICT ROOM RULES - It is very important that the ICT rules are followed at all times to make sure that all pupils are safe in the computer room. There are 10 basic rules. Please make sure that you learn and follow them.
- 2. WHAT IS ICT? - It is very important to understand what is meant by the term ICT. It is not just about using computers. It is important to learn how ICT is used in the real world and areas of society. E.g. organisations, businesses, schools etc. It is important for you to understand how we can use ICT to input, process and communicate information in different ways using a variety of technology.
- 3. NETWORKS & LOGGING ON
A network is a group of computers that are connected together.- A network has lots of advantages:
- You can work from any computer that is on the network.
- You can share very expensive printers.
- Your work can be protected by a password.
- You can access work that has been prepared for you by your teacher.
- Logging on - On a network the first thing you need to do is to log on. When you log on you are telling the computer who you are.The computer then knows where to find your work. When you save your work on a network it is stored on a computer called a server. Your teacher will give you your username and password in your ICT lesson. It is your responsibility to keep your details safe.
- MANAGING FILES & FOLDERS - A folder structure allows us to keep information organised in folders. It also prevents data from being accidentally deleted if it is in the correct place. Other people who wish to access the files can also find them easily. A folder is like the inside a filing cabinet. Inside a folder there are arranged files.
Data or files can be lost in different ways. They can be accidentally deleted by users, especially if they do not have an appropriate name. If there is not a suitable folder structure, people can also forget where they have stored them. In addition to this, files can be stolen by people or become destroyed by viruses Suitable protection such as passwords and anti-virus software should be in place to prevent this. Remember, prevention is better than cure.
